WhatsApp Video Call Keeps Rotating? Here’s How to Fix This Problem
Does your WhatsApp screen automatically switch from portrait mode to landscape mode during a video call? Don’t worry! You’re not alone. In this article, I have shared the reasons for the WhatsApp video call auto-rotate problem and ways to fix it.
Why does my WhatsApp video call keep rotating?

If WhatsApp’s video call screen auto-rotates (upside-down) on your Android or iPhone, there could be several reasons behind it, such as the device’s ‘Lock Orientation’ being disabled, an outdated WhatsApp version, and device compatibility, etc.
Although this auto-screen rotation is a very common problem, sometimes it can frustrate users a lot during important video calls. Fixing this is pretty simple, whether you are an Android user or an iOS user.
How to Fix WhatsApp Video Call Keeps Rotating Problem
#1. Enable Lock Orientation
All Android phones, tablets, iPhones, and iPads have a screen orientation feature that automatically rotates the screen image. Some Android phones have it called “Lock Orientation”, while others have it called “Auto-Rotate“.
If the ‘Lock Orientation’ mode is disabled on your device, your WhatsApp video call screen will auto-rotate whenever you rotate your phone. However, this problem can be easily fixed by enabling the ‘Lock Orientation’ mode.
On Android:
- Swipe Down Your Phone’s Screen from Top.
- Tap on ‘Lock Orientation’ Icon to Turn It On.
On iPhone:
- Swipe Down from the Top Right-Hand Corner of Your Screen to Open Control Centre.
- Tap on Portrait Orientation Lock Icon to Turn It On.

#2. Restart Your Device
Sometimes such problems may occur due to misconfiguration of the device, and simply restarting the device can resolve the issue.
To restart your Android phone; Press and hold the Power button on your phone. Then tap on Restart on the screen.
To restart the iPhone; Press Volume Up + Side or Volume Down + Side on your phone. Then drag the slider to the right to turn off your phone. Next, Press and hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears.
#3. Update Your WhatsApp
Often users do not update WhatsApp and have to face various problems due to bugs or glitches. If the WhatsApp video call rotation problem is due to the bug in the app, then update WhatsApp.
#4. Clear WhatsApp Cache
If the video call screen is still auto-rotating even after updating WhatsApp, then a corrupt cache can also be a reason. For this, clear the WhatsApp cache on your phone.
On Android:
- Open Settings on Your Phone.
- Navigate to Apps > All Apps > WhatsApp.
- Tap on Storage & Cache.
- Tap on Clear Cache.

On iPhone:
Unfortunately, there is no dedicated option to clear the cache. However, on iPhone, you can delete the old data of the WhatsApp app by offloading it.
For this, go to iPhone’s Settings > iPhone Storage > WhatsApp App > Offload App > Offload App to Confirm > Reinstall App.
