iOS 26 Now Supports HDR Screenshots! Here’s How to Enable and Use It?
Apple added several unique features in the iOS 26 update. Yes! We’re talking about another new feature: HDR screenshots. If your iPhone is compatible with iOS 26, you will now be able to use this new HDR Screenshots feature.
What is the HDR Screenshots Feature on iPhone?

HDR Screenshots is a feature on iPhones running iOS 26 or later that allows you to capture screens with improved clarity and vibrant color accuracy. It also ensures that your screenshots have the same high-quality look as your display.
However, even if your iPhone is compatible with iOS 26, if your iPhone does not have an HDR display, you will not be able to enable and use this feature.
How to Enable and Use HDR Screenshots Feature on iOS 26 Running iPhones
In iOS 26 or later, the screenshot format is selected by default as SDR (Most Compatible). However, you can now change the screenshot format to HDR from within iPhone Settings.
While SDR is a standard dynamic range and saves screenshots in PNG format, HDR saves your iPhone screenshots in HEIF format with full dynamic range.
To activate HDR Screenshots on your iOS 26-running iPhone:
- Open Settings App on Your iPhone.
- Tap on General.
- Tap on Screen Capture.
- Under the Format Section, Simply Select HDR.
That’s all! Now whenever you take a screenshot on your iPhone, it will be saved in your gallery in HDR and HEIF format. One thing to note is that many devices don’t support the HEIF format, so if you share an HDR screenshot with someone, they might not be able to view it.
However, you can always revert the screen capture format on your iPhone to SDR. To do this, go to Settings > General > Screen Capture on your iPhone and then select SDR (Most Compatible).
